Angela Jones
Angela Jones (co-founder) was born in Germany and grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. After graduating from Stanford University, she headed straight for New York to pursue a career in Dance. Soon she became known for her “powerful stage presence” and “wild energy” New York Times, and for “taking deeply felt intangibble notions and making them visual,” Backstage. She showed her work at such places as Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, the Joyce Soho, Theater Artaud in San Francisco, and the Skirball Center of NYU.
When she sprained both her ankles, she decided it was time to leave the floor and went to Berlin to train in aerial work. After she returned, she met her trapeze partner, Laura Witwer, and they started the company ImaginAerial. Soon the two were performing all over the world, Greece, Portugal, Germany, Holland, Denmark, Bangkok, Mexico, the Carribbean, and Romania. They also toured the US everywhere from Hawaii to Washington DC. The two will be featured in the fall on NOVA, and Jones has been featured as a soloist on the Sundance channel as part of the Next Garde series.
Angela joined Suspended Cirque when Laura became pregnant, and is excited to be performing again with such a dynamic group. She is enjoying revisiting her past as a dancer/choreographer and creating new work that knows no bounds physically or creatively.
